Don't Judge what you don't Know (This I Believe)
I believe that you cannot judge someone unless you know them very well. This I believe. Someone who is quiet could have a lot of good ideas inside their head, and not have the courage to speak up when they know something. Someone who is loud and always makes jokes could be doing so to cover up what’s really going on in their lives, the things that are weighing them down. People often judge those who do wrong. Yet these people may do wrong because they have never learned how to do what is right. I believe it is not fair to hate what you do not understand. I am rather difficult to get to know, and only my closest friends know me very well. And I don’t know what people who are not my closest friends think of me, but I can assure you they do not know me. It is impossible to judge someone righteously without knowing the small details that make them who they are. Nobody I just greet in the hallway could possibly know that I love the tranquility of a summer evening or that I over-analyze everything. Nobody I just greet in the hallway could possibly know my deepest fears, hopes, and dreams. So they may judge me, but they don’t have an adequate foundation for it. We like to categorize, to label boxes and sort people into them without giving these people more than a glance. Jocks, nerds, gamers, geeks, popular kids, etcetera. Yet unless you truly know someone, you can’t know whether they fit those stereotypes of the box we threw them into when we first met them. This I believe.
